Home | Tip of the Week | Be a coach that the players respect and look . . .

Be a coach that the players respect and look up to.

Young players will assume that you know what you’re talking about and that you are showing them the best way to play soccer.

This does give you an upper hand even if you have just been selected by the other parents who didn’t want to coach the team!

Keep the players believing this for as long as you can or do something about it if you haven’t got all the answers.

To be a good coach you should lead by example, do the right things on the training field, be there to assist, demonstrate, listen, encourage, praise and have fun.

Being a soccer coach is demanding, but its also very rewarding. With a bit of organisation, planning, knowledge and enthusiasm you will be amazed at what can be achieved.

The key to being a successful coach is learn as much as you can through listening, observation and reading.
