Do Your Players Make The Right Kinds Of Movement?
Good footballing teams have players who are mobile and make the right moves at the critical moments during a game.
Speed of mind, and quick decisions, made by players who are in possession of the ball can quickly capitalise on any weakness that your opponents show.
But just as important as offensive speed is the ability of your players to recognise and react quickly to eliminate any danger that you opponents show.
In order for you to ensure that your players make the right moves and decisions observe the following points during their next competitive game:
- When your team gains possession, do they generally move away from the ball to create space and open angles for passing?
- When your team loses possession do they generally move to close down the ball carrier, denying time and space? Again do they pick up players and deny passing channels?
- If in doubt as to whether a player recognises these key moments, make notes during the game on key situations and then ask them what they thought their role was?
By checking on these two simple but crucial moments in the game, when you team has or loses possession, and observing your players movement will tell you a great deal about which areas of your teams game you need to work on in training.
That's it for this week, short and simple but very powerful.
Good luck in this weekend's games. I know Pete M Jones, (Newtown FC) and his U16's team are battling in two cup finals this weekend and early next week he'll be challenging for the title too... best wishes Pete!
