Developmental Soccer At Grassroots Level

Earlier this week, I was interviewed and asked about my thoughts on the game and what I felt about the development of soccer at grass roots level.

I explained that I was frustrated and worried about the lack of technical knowledge and expertise of many youth level players that I've seen.

Crikey, I've seen youth players recently that had trouble even trapping a ball. Talk about control... one player managed to control the ball further than I can kick it!

While I believe that developing players needs to be fun and we shouldn't be putting U6 though U11 under too much performance pressure, we can't stand back and let them play their own game without giving them the basics.

Coaching mini and junior players the fundamental basics like how to trap and control a ball, how to open their body up when receiving it, the importance of knowing what's going on around them, how vital their first touch is... all of these key fundamentals, plus many more are needed to be built into training sessions at an early stage.

It's not surprising that most elite clubs are seeking their new talent from foreign shores because they're more technically proficient due to the coaching that they have received.

So, here is my challenge to you this week, and be honest with yourself, I want you to analyse...

  • How well do you think that you coach your players?
  • How effectively do you communicate the technical points of soccer techniques?
  • Do you know all of the technical points for each soccer technique?
  • Are you able to analyse and pinpoint what a player needs to develop to improve?
  • Do you give sufficient feedback to both individual and groups of players?
  • Can you effectively stop a training session, get your point across and then start again?
  • Do you have a soccer training plan for each player?

If you're unsure of your answers to any of these questions then we have the information ready for you to help you get the best out of your team.

For example, if a player is receiving the ball wide out on the touch line what should their body shape be like in order to help build the attack? If their body shape isn't correct then they may stifle a very good attacking opportunity!

The answer is to have their back to the sideline and their frontal perspective open to the whole game. This allows them to see all of the pitch through 180 degrees enabling them to see what's on behind, to the side and in front of them.

Many coaches don't see these small but critical elements in a team's play... but quite often they are the difference between winning and losing.

If you're unsure of any of the points above then I want you to act now and take a trial membership and see whether we can help improve your own soccer knowledge and more importantly your teams performances.

There is an important reason why you need to act today and use the special link below.

On November 6th our membership fee's are going up... but if you get in now, you will be locked in at our current membership levels.

Your trial membership starts at just £1 for 14 days of full access all areas of Junior Soccer Coach. That means you can post questions in the soccer forum and let us answer your current issues or problems.

As a member for the 14 days you'll qualify for the discounts on all our DVD products... which are worth being a member for alone!

But more importantly than anything else you'll get a personal service from me, Neil Stafford and Lee Jones when you join.

You see we're not some huge organization that is completely out of touch with what happens in the trenches every weekend.

We're just like you running our own teams, and we also know quite a bit about how to get the best out of individual players and how to collectively organize them into a solid winning soccer team.

Our members come from all over the world... we are a truly global organization now.

From humble beginnings in Feb 2003 we now have over five years online experience so you can feel safe in the knowledge that we'll be around for a long time to come.

You'll be especially glad of this when you come to rely on our training sessions and insight when your team are playing the most attractive soccer you've ever seen.

You, along with your players, will feel the excitement as they start to realize their potential and start buzzing with a new found energy.

OK, you're probably asking... "Neil, how are you so convinced that you can help me and my team perform at another level?"

Good question and one that I'd ask.

Over the last five years we've helped coaches kick their teams on to win leagues, competitions and lift many trophies... in the UK, USA, South Africa, Australia... heck we've even done it in the North Pole!

It wouldn't surprise me if a coach in your local area, maybe even your league, is stealing a march on you and your team by being a member of our Junior Soccer Coach!

Here's how confident I am that we can help your team. If within the 14 days trial period you don't feel like we offer tremendous value, you can ask for your £1 back... call it my no hassle guarantee.

You'll love the sessions that we have in the members only pages and when you act now and join us you'll be locked in at the "beat the rise" membership.

If you're ready to kick your team on and be accessing break through soccer coaching insights then visit the link below.

Join Junior Soccer Coach For Only £1

If you need some time to think it over, we'll be putting the price up as of November 6th... so regular monthly subscriptions will jump from only £5.95 to £9.95.

(ALL existing members will stay at £5.95 (approximately $9.80) for as long as they remain a member - your fees will never go up)

Don't forget to think about the answers to the above questions on whether you're developing your team technically and tactically this week.

Have a great week in training and good luck in this weekends games.

Play well,

Neil T
