Causing a stir in the soccer community!
We have tens of thousands of coaches on our list from all over the world but this weeks tip of the week seemed to touch a nerve with a couple of people! I was accused... "You are part of the problem, discussing winning matches and technical skills!! Technical skills, footballers are artists not engineers for God's sake." I'm glad to say that with this subscriber we traded a few emails and cleared things up. And that's one of the things I love about the game of soccer is that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, some are more informed than others but never less everyone is entitled to their own. Let me be clear here. I'm not some Ivory Tower Association employee who's spouting out the latest mumbo jumbo on soccer player development who's never taken a team session, let alone kicked a ball in anger! I am actively involved in running and coaching junior and youth soccer teams of all levels and abilities. It just so happens that what I do with my players seems to work and we do win the majority of our games. Yes we won the League last year and ended up in two cup finals as well, we're unbeaten this season... but there's no pressure or yelling at the players to perform, they play attractive football/soccer themselves. Why? Primarily because they want to but they have also been coached properly starting when they were U6 and developed in an environment that encouraged them to be creative, take risks, work together and focus on performance goals not outcome or result goals. Too many coaches put too much emphasis on winning. Consequently players tend to focus on this but not in a constructive way... instead they focus on not losing! By placing greater emphasis on achieving personal performance goals players can gain more control over an important part of their participation - their own success. A SCARY OFFER! OK, it's Halloween and I'm going to stick my neck on the block here and hope that our accountant isn't dressed as the grim reaper or there will be no more tips coming out in the future! For TODAY ONLY (and this offer does turn into a pumpkin at midnight GMT) when you join Junior Soccer Coach and take an *annual membership* out I'm going to send you a copy of our best selling DVD 'How To Coach Your Team To Play & Beat the 4 4 2 formation' AND a copy of the acclaimed 'How To Coach Your Team To Play Against & Beat the 4 3 3 formation'.... To recap... You'll receive 2 full length DVD's both over an hour long on how to play against two of the most common formations that your likely to encounter... plus a Multi Stage Fitness CD and instructions. Finally... I'll leave this SCARY update with a less than frightening extract of part my email I referred to above... "As for winning, I'd like to think that most kids and coaches would like to win a game or two... our philosophy is not win at all costs, but more along the lines of if you do the right things at the right time then you'll build a squad of solid players who collectively will win games... maybe not them all but more than they lose." The main team that I coach are not individually the best players in the league, but collectively they play terrific football. The best compliment I've ever received was from a grandfather of one of our opponents who came over to me after a game and said... "I've been watching local kids football for over 50 years in this area and I've never seen a group of players, pass the ball... from the back to the front, move, talk and create as many chances as your lads did today. They're a credit to you." Coaching players in soccer tactics and techniques I feel is only a small part of the role. Providing experiences, helping players understand social interaction, what it means to be part of a team, the values of competing, being the best that they can be... these are all areas that a good coach should develop too. If you're like me, and the many coaches from around the world that share this outlook, then come and join in today. https://juniorsoccercoach.com/public/5.cfm We look forward to giving you a warm welcome. Best wishes Neil www.JuniorSoccerCoach.com Helping You Develop Tomorrow's Soccer Talent, Today!
